The Laboratory Sebastian Georgescu, Katrina Malinski, Jelena Vukovic

Placed on top of existing facilities on the Schleusen-Insel, and in close proximity to the Umlaufttank designed by Ludwig Leo in the 70s, the Laboratory embodies the research hub of the future. Rather conceived as a nod of a complex network of research activities than as a common laboratory the cylindrical form of the building is composed of diverse floorplans allowing a variety of research scenarios. Inter- and transdisciplinary collaborations as well as new digitalized forms of scientific investigations are accommodated in an open and flexible container that still leaves space for unpredictable research programmes in the future.
